This book on extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances is very timely in light of the pressing need to intensify efforts to pursue cases and hold accountable not only those who committed human rights violations during the nine-year rule of then President Gloria Arroyo, but also those who continue to commit these crimes under the Aquino administration. The increasing number of killings and disappearances of activists since last year only confirms the studies of human rights lawyers on the systemic nature of human rights violations in the country. The book is an attempt to contribute in providing answers to why impunity persists through the prism of the experience of human rights lawyers of NUPL and the legal cases involving the killings and disappearances in various Philippine courts.
