Today, private complainant Aurora Santiago filed a Motion for Leave to File Motion for Reconsideration and the Motion for Reconsideration itself before the Supreme Court, challenging the acquittal of Marvin Nuguid in the case of the extrajudicial killing (EJK) of Dutch missionary Wilhelmus “Willem” Geertman. The pleadings assert that the decision was tainted by denial of due process, rendering it void and outside the protection of double jeopardy.
In today’s filing, Aurora is joined by Sr. Cecil Ruiz, who bravely testified before the RTC of Pampanga; Eco Dangla, survivor of enforced disappearance; rights defenders of Karapatan-Central Luzon; and lawyers of the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL).
